Superb styling of this magnificent top! I like it over the buttoned shirt and with the mesh top over it, and your chartreuse shorts are amazing. Nothing wrong with wearing it 10 years later…I expect to wear my clothes that long (and longer). Your styling challenges the original layer of Latin American identity and gives such a unique vibe. Thank you for sharing this!💕
Yes! This was a great exercise and it made me think of “timelessness” and “identity” in a different way. I am glad you found it stimulating💚〰️ thank you for being here〰️
I often think of the items of clothing that I pined over 10 years ago and I wonder if I would want them/how I would style them now. I am so happy for you that you got the top because it represents more than a shirt you liked in 2015.
I was actually going to post screenshots of my Pinterest boards from a decade ago but the newsletter was already so long! I figured I could make a whole new piece with the insights of such observations. It’s fascinating to watch ourselves evolve and see it reflected it in our fashion choices.
This feels like a true art form, your re(discovery) of the top, remembering what it meant then, imbuing it with new meaning now, capturing and sharing it. I am so in awe. (And styling ideas to boot!)
It’s amazing how perceptive you are. After being an artist exploring so many forms of expression (I graduated with my MFA in 2020), this newsletter—which I didn’t start as an art project—has felt like the closest thing to my most authentic art practice. It has allowed me to feeeeel
Your styling is absolutely amazing! I'm inspired! Also, I have so many things from 2014 ish that I have hung onto, but shipped to store at my mom's house. Weird for me to hang on to things, I usually sell what I'm not wearing but something abt this era feels special. Now your post has me wondering if something larger was happening around this time, structurally.
I have been obsessed with this comment. I read it while waiting for a red light to change, and YES. 2014 and 2015 were special. I wonder if the “larger” aspect you mentioned is the fact that Instagram became widespread during those years, really changing how fashion was being disseminated. It was an exciting time to be online and discover people who were sharing their style, experimenting, having fun, and not so focused on monetizing. I guess the fashion associated with that era feels like smelling a perfume from a different time, bringing back so many good memories.
