8 incredible looking women from LatinAmerica that you're not paying attention to.
They're unique, complex, talented and pretty much everything luxury fashion brands should be looking for.
This is a post that I co-wrote with Colombian, NY-based fashion photographer and dear friend Andrés Oyuela, who also writes a wonderful Substack called Things You Missed. Andrés and I share the same origins and have navigated similar identity conundrums as a result of moving to New York as young creatives, though Andrés with infinitely more grace and a better sense of humor. No matter where in the world he is or which seemingly immortal gorgeous woman he is photographing, Andrés is the friend who will always answer my texts to discuss how the music at Raf Simons' first show for Calvin Klein made us cry or to exchange therapy points on how to stop looking for validation in all the wrong places.
Now, here is our open letter:
Dear PR people working at global luxury brands:
We have ideas on who else could be sitting front row next to your current Latin American brand ambassadors. Listen, we all love, celebrate, and follow the ones you already have but since Latin America is not a monolith, we want to show you a broader range of women who also have the talent, the merit, the brains, and obviously the looks to be flown to your Paris shows and get VIP access to those fabulous sponsored summer parties at St. Tropez while making your clothes look great.
We know you are busy, and your profit goals must be insane, so we typed “Latin American fashion influencer” on Instagram, scrolled down for you and, unsurprisingly, we found hundreds of cool, stylish and diverse talented women totally capable of moving the needle of your Latin American consumer.
While the "it" fashion-influencing Latin American women are beautiful, they have also been historically chosen by brands, usually through an ethnically biased lens so we just think it’s about time for you to update and expand those filters.
Let’s do this!
Laura’s Picks:
1. Eva Fox
Eva is a force of go-all-in-or-don't-go-at-all boho chic maximalism. Her distinct personal style radiates confidence and is rooted in self-awareness and timelessness, defying all kinds of fleeting trends. Her power is not only in her captivating looks (and locks) but also in her soft, mysterious aura. Not that Eva needs the validation—she is a force of her own—but imagine how wonderful it would be for Isabel Marant to slide into her DMs, send her a PR box, fly her to the next show, and why not… have her design a capsule collection? I mean, we all know how much Isabel Marant loves all things Latin America, so I'm sure it would be a big hit.
2. Ryan Alexandra:
Embodying the clean girl aesthetic since 2015, before it was cool on TikTok, her images and color story have a consistently minimal look that reads as curated yet authentic. I would love to see her representing brands in the family of Lemaire, but since she is so well-informed on all things skin, Chanel Beauty would be lucky to have her explain what Le Lift serum can actually do for my wrinkly, unbotoxed forehead or how to correctly do an overline for an instant lip-filled effect using their pencil in the tone Rouge Noir. And while my lips won't look like hers, just hearing her incredibly soothing voice and seeing her gorgeous face will probably keep me glued to the screen.
3. Julia:
I first noticed Julia on TikTok, and what struck me first, besides that smile, is what a powerhouse she is. The girl works hard teaching us 30-40+ how to embrace the millennial tuck while keeping our looks cool. Her consistent, modern yet classic point of view is grounded in both aesthetics and practicality, resonating with many adult women who have an understanding of their personal style and want to keep it fresh and polished. I hope PRs at Celine are paying attention to her if they want to speak to more Latinamerican women.
4. Julianna AM
I am always inspired by women like Juliana, who incorporate elements from their places of origin as a form of sartorial language with such authenticity, like she does with the fútbol (soccer) shirts she wears and creates through her brand Ambiente Central. A hardworking, talented model and entrepreneur with unique Latin American features intertwined with that LA cool factor, I can see Juliana arriving in a full Miu Miu look to sit front row between Sydney Sweeney and Lexie Liu.
